For the last 80 years, the museum of discovery in little rock (mod) has served central arkansas as a combination natural history, cultural history, and science museum. Recently, the staff and board of trustees decided to re-invent the museum of discovery as an interactive museum focusing on science, technology, and math. Mod came to the science museum of minnesota to develop an exhibit master plan that could both serve as a guide for the future and help mod prepare capital funding plans. Over the course of four months, the science museum worked closely with mod staff and board members to fashion a thoughtful and practical plan that builds on mod's strengths, while also drawing on the treasure trove of

interactive experiences that already exist in the science museum field to seed the renovated museum.

During world war ii, james allison, a sports writer working for the houston press, noticed that many photographs not printed in the daily newspaper were routinely discarded. He received permission to save these images, and by war's end he had amassed a collection of more than 4,600 photographs. In august 1977, allison donated his collection to the arkansas museum of science and history, located in the historic arsenal building in macarthur park. Today, the macarthur museum of arkansas military history owns and preserves these images.

The old state house museum is the original state capitol of arkansas. Since 1833, when construction began, the building and its grounds have witnessed many of the most important events in arkansas history. The old state house has hosted the admission of arkansas to the union, a fatal knife fight between two sitting legislators, the arkansas vote to secede from the united states and join the confederacy, pioneering medical research into hookworm and malaria, and two acceptance speeches by the president of the united states.
